Pipe Organ Recital by Todd Wilson - Monday, February 7, 2011 at 7:30pm

The District of Columbia chapter of the American Guild of Organists will present a pipe organ recital by internationally acclaimed concert organist Todd Wilson on Monday evening, February 7 at 7:30pm.

The recital is a memorial event in celebration of the work of master pipe organ builder Donald Gillett who passed away in 2010, will be performed upon National City Christian Church’s five-keyboard, 7,100-pipe Möller pipe organ, Washington D.C. third largest pipe organ.  Donald Gillett was responsible for this instrument’s installation in 1976 and was heralded by fellow organ builders and organists across the United States for his work on many of the country's major pipe organs. The National City organ’s console is in full view of the audience and the audience is surrounded front and back by the organ’s pipes. Designed in 1929-30 by architect John Russell Pope, National City Christian Church’s acoustics are some of the finest in the city.

Todd Wilson, who is head of the Organ Department at The Cleveland Institute of Music, Curator of the E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH, and Artist-in-Residence at Cleveland's Trinity Cathedral, will perform the following works:

Chorale-Improvisation on "In Dulci Jubilo" by Sigfrid Karg-Elert

Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 582 by Johann Sebastian Bach

Soliloquy by David Conte

Carmen Suite by Georges Bizet/Edwin H. Lemare

Choral in E Major by César Franck

Scherzo, Op. 2 by Maurice Duruflé

Allegro vivace (Variations), from Symphony #5 by Charles-Marie Widor

Tickets for the general public will be sold at the door on the evening of the event. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students (with student ID) and free for children ages 18 and under. Members of the American Guild of Organists, who have paid their yearly dues, enter free of charge.
