On any given day, there are more than 7,500 homeless men, women, and children in Washington, DC. National City Christian Church ministers to the homeless through Christian action in partnership with the following community organizations:
N Street Village
National City volunteers used to prepare and serve breakfast to about 50 homeless women at the Bethany House of N Street Village (14th and N Streets, NW). But we have lost our volunteer coordinator and are looking for a replacement. If you are interested please contact Colleen Walsh, National City’s office manager.
N Street Village was built and is sponsored by Luther Place Lutheran Church across the street from National City. N Street provides emergency, transitional, and long-term care for homeless women in the city.
On the second Wednesday of each month, four or five NCCC volunteers load into Martha’s Table’s van to deliver an evening meal of soup, sandwiches, and dessert to homeless men and women on the street. In December, our volunteers also distribute Christmas Care Kits as special presents for those who gather for the meal.
New volunteers are needed for this mission. To assist with Martha’s Table’s van please contact Gary Lewis at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Meeting site: Martha’s Table: 2114 14th St., NW.
Help the Homeless Walkathon
The third Saturday in November National City members join with thousands of walkers to participate in the Help the Homeless Walkathon. We generally donate our funds to N Street Village. The Walkathon raises large amounts of money for agencies that help the homeless.
